Associate - New Business Based: Edinburgh or Glasgow
The Scottish National Investment Bank is seeking an Associate - New Business to support the front end of its investment pipeline.
This role plays a key part in the origination and early-stage assessment of new investment opportunities. The role holder will help ensure that opportunities are assessed consistently, efficiently and in line with the Bank's missions, investment criteria and risk appetite.
Working within the New Business team, the role combines commercial insight, analytical capability and stakeholder engagement to support high-quality decision making and the delivery of long-term economic, social and environmental impact across Scotland.

About You
The role requires a combination of analytical capability, sound judgement and strong communication skills.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate:
- A degree in Business, Finance or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience in a transactional, banking or investment environment
- Progress towards (or interest in) a professional qualification such as CA, CFA or similar
- Experience in financial analysis and modelling
- Ability to structure and communicate complex information clearly, both written and verbally
- Developed Excel and Microsoft Office skills
- A proactive approach, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Effective stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build constructive relationships
- Confidence in delivering balanced and respectful feedback, including where outcomes are not positive
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a first-line reviewer for inbound investment enquiries across priority missions and sectors
- Undertake initial commercial, financial and impact assessments to evaluate strategic fit
- Identify key risks, red flags and diligence gaps, escalating where appropriate
- Prepare clear, evidence-based papers and briefing notes for internal forums and committees
- Maintain accurate and transparent records of pipeline activity, decisions and rationale
- Engage professionally with prospective investees, advisors and co-investors
- Coordinate introductory meetings and ensure effective preparation and follow-up
- Provide clear and constructive feedback to organisations where opportunities are not progressed
- Support the ongoing management and tracking of the New Business pipeline
- Contribute to continuous improvement of origination processes and ways of working
- Promote consistency, fairness and transparency in all assessments
