LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a growing organization in the Richmond area to identify a Payroll Specialist for a full-time, permanent opportunity. This role offers a hybrid schedule, a collaborative team environment, and the opportunity to support high-volume, multi-state payroll operations.
Payroll Specialist
Glen Allen, VA (Hybrid Schedule)
$29 – $32/hour, overtime as needed
Schedule & Work Environment
Hybrid flexibility (remote and in-office balance)
Established payroll team with strong support structure
High-impact role supporting a large, multi-state employee population
Opportunity to work with modern payroll systems and system transitions
Monday – Friday, flexible 8-hour schedule within standard business hours
Hybrid: 2 days remote, 3 days in office (flexibility required around payroll cycles)
What You’ll Be Doing
Payroll Processing & Compliance
Process bi-weekly and semi-monthly payrolls for a multi-state workforce (1,000+ employees)
Handle payroll for hourly, salaried, and commissioned employees
Maintain payroll data including new hires, terminations, compensation changes, and deductions
Ensure accuracy of payroll tax withholdings, filings, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Reporting & Reconciliation
Prepare payroll reports including earnings, taxes, deductions, and leave tracking
Support year-end processes, including W-2 preparation and reconciliation
Transmit and reconcile benefit deductions such as 401(k) contributions
What We’re Looking For
3+ years of experience processing multi-state payroll in a high-volume environment
Experience supporting payroll for 200+ employees (large-scale preferred)
Strong understanding of payroll processes, tax compliance, and reporting
Experience with payroll systems such as UKG, Workday, or similar platforms
High level of accuracy, organization, and ability to manage multiple deadlines
Strong communication skills and ability to handle sensitive information with discretion
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related field
Payroll certification (CPP or FPC)
