Quality Engineer

Location: New Hyde Park, NY - Full time on site
Reports To: Quality Manager
Salary: 85k-100k

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of our Quality Management System (QMS). This role is key to ensuring the organization meets the highest standards of product quality, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate brings 4+ years of quality engineering experience, preferably within the aerospace or defense manufacturing sector, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the AS9100D / AS9120B Quality Management System.

  • Conduct and review AS9102 First Article Inspections (FAIs) in accordance with customer and industry requirements.

  • Plan and execute internal and external audits related to QMS, product quality, and process compliance.

  • Monitor supplier performance and lead root cause and corrective action activities (RCCA).

  • Collaborate closely with customers to ensure all product, documentation, and contractual requirements are understood and met.

  • Develop, maintain, and analyze quality metrics, KPIs, and statistical data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.

  • Manage document control, including revisions, updates, and regulatory record retention.

  • Oversee equipment calibration schedules and maintain associated records and certification files.

  • Serve as a quality liaison during customer visits, audits, and third‑party assessments.

  • Support internal stakeholders through troubleshooting, training, and guidance on quality-related processes.

  • Assist with special projects, process optimization, and quality‑related initiatives as assigned.


Required Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to interpret customer purchase orders, contracts, engineering drawings, specifications, and change notices.

  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100, AS9120, and related aerospace quality system standards.

  • Hands-on experience with First Article Inspections (AS9102).

  • Proficiency with MS Office, basic measurement tools, and familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (AS400 experience a plus).

  • Strong understanding of continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Kaizen, etc.).

  • High attention to detail with strong organizational, documentation, and problem‑solving skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across departments.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present findings and interact effectively with auditors, customers, and internal teams.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, or related technical discipline OR 4+ years of quality experience in a regulated manufacturing environment (aerospace strongly preferred).

  • U.S. citizenship or legal residency required.

  • Experience supporting quality programs within aerospace or defense supply chains is highly desirable.

  • Professional certifications such as CQE, CQA, RCCA, AS13001, AS9117, or auditing credentials are a plus.
