Location: Phoenix, AZ
Overview

A well-established HVAC contractor in Arizona is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead and rapidly scale its Commercial HVAC Construction Division. This is a high-impact leadership role with full P&L ownership, ideal for a seasoned construction executive who has previously operated as a GM or equivalent senior leader.

The division focuses primarily on multi-family and light commercial HVAC installation. The ideal leader will bring both strategic vision and tactical execution, with a strong ability to build teams, tighten operations, and drive significant revenue growth.

This is a hands-on role for a leader who thrives in accountability-driven environments and has a track record of operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy

  • Own overall performance, direction, and growth strategy for the Commercial Construction Division.

  • Develop and execute a scalable plan to expand revenue, market presence, and profitability.

  • Build bench strength within leadership, promoting a culture of performance, safety, and accountability.

  • Partner with executive leadership on long-term planning, organizational structure, and capital requirements.

Financial & Operational Management

  • Fully own P&L, including budgeting, forecasting, and margin performance.

  • Establish and monitor KPIs for production efficiency, labor utilization, job costing, and project profitability.

  • Ensure projects are completed on time, on budget, and aligned with company quality standards.

  • Drive continuous improvement in estimating, scheduling, operational workflows, and cost controls.

Business Development & Client Relationships

  • Lead commercial business development initiatives focused on multi-family developers, general contractors, and repeat customers.

  • Strengthen relationships with existing accounts while expanding into new clients and markets.

  • Collaborate with estimating and operations teams to ensure competitive, profitable, and accurately scoped bids.

  • Represent the organization professionally within the commercial construction community.

People Management

  • Directly oversee project managers, field leadership, and internal support staff.

  • Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing operational and project management talent.

  • Establish clear expectations, performance standards, and accountability systems.

  • Promote a safety-first culture and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a General Manager or senior leader within construction or HVAC.

  • Strong background in commercial HVAC installation, ideally serving multi-family and light commercial markets.

  • Demonstrated ability to scale revenue and improve operational performance.

  • Solid financial acumen with hands-on P&L responsibility.

  • Experience leading teams of comparable size with multiple concurrent projects.

  • Strong understanding of estimating, project execution, labor management, and job costing.

  • Chiller, industrial, or heavy commercial experience is not required.

Leadership Traits Desired

  • Builder mentality—excited to scale a mid-size division into something substantially larger.

  • Decisive, accountable, and comfortable owning bottom-line results.

  • Strong communicator able to align field teams, office staff, and executive leadership.

  • Practical, no-ego leader respected both on the job site and in the boardroom.

  • Growth?oriented but disciplined in operational execution and margin protection.

Why This Opportunity

  • Join a respected HVAC contractor with deep roots and a strong brand in the region.

  • Lead a stable division with significant opportunities for expansion.

  • Work with a leadership team that supports innovation, investment, and long-term growth.

  • Ability to truly run a business, not just manage projects—ideal for a leader ready to make a major impact.
